Getting started
3What is Wattly?
Wattly is a companion app for Tesla owners. It connects to your Tesla account through the official Tesla Fleet API to give you detailed insight into your vehicle — battery status, charging sessions, trip history, energy consumption and more.
How do I connect my Tesla?
- Open Wattly and tap “Sign in with Tesla”.
- You're redirected to Tesla's official authentication page.
- Sign in with your Tesla account credentials.
- Grant Wattly permission to access your vehicle data.
- To use vehicle commands, add Wattly as a Virtual Key in the Tesla app.
What is a Virtual Key?
A Virtual Key is a Tesla security feature that lets third-party apps send commands to your vehicle (lock/unlock, climate, etc.). You can add Wattly as a Virtual Key through the Tesla app. It's optional, and only needed if you want to use vehicle commands.
Features
2What data can I see in Wattly?
Wattly surfaces, among other things:
- Battery status — charge level, range and charging state.
- Charging history — every session with energy added, duration and cost estimates.
- Trip history — recorded drives with routes, distance and consumption.
- Climate status — interior/exterior temperature and preconditioning.
- Vehicle location — current position on the map.
- Statistics — efficiency trends, battery-health estimates and analytics.
What is Fleet Telemetry?
Fleet Telemetry is Tesla's real-time data-streaming service. When enabled, your vehicle sends data directly to our secure servers, so Wattly records your trips and charging sessions automatically — no manual refresh needed.
Telemetry is optional and can be turned on or off any time from the app settings.
Privacy & security
4Is my data secure?
Yes — security is our top priority:
- Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain.
- All data in transit is encrypted with TLS.
- Data at rest is protected by platform security (Keychain, encrypted databases).
- Telemetry data is stored on secure servers in the European Union.
- We never store your Tesla password.
Why does Tesla ask for so many permissions?
When you sign in, Tesla's authorization screen lists every capability in each permission group. “Vehicle Commands” mentions things like camera access and driver management because Tesla bundles all commands under one permission — there's no way to request only specific ones.
Wattly only uses vehicle commands for features you control directly:
- Climate — AC on/off, temperature, seat heaters.
- Lock / unlock — your doors, remotely.
- Trunk & frunk — open storage.
- Sentry Mode — enable or disable.
- Charging — start/stop, set charge limit.
- Flash & honk — locate your car.
What data does Wattly collect?
Wattly collects the vehicle data needed to provide its services (battery status, location, charging and driving history). We don't sell your data or use it for advertising. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
How can I delete my data?
You can request complete deletion of your data:
- Email privacy@wattly.tech.
- We process requests within 30 days.
Troubleshooting
3Why isn't my vehicle data updating?
If your data isn't updating, try the following:
- Check your vehicle has cellular/Wi-Fi connectivity.
- Make sure your Tesla authorization hasn't expired (sign out and back in).
- If using Fleet Telemetry, verify it's enabled in Settings.
- The car may be asleep to save battery — data updates when it wakes.
Why can't I send commands to my vehicle?
Vehicle commands require a Virtual Key. To enable them:
- Open the Tesla app on your phone.
- Go to Security › Third-Party Access.
- Find Wattly and approve the Virtual Key.
- You may need to be near the vehicle for the initial pairing.
Why are my charging costs different from my electric bill?
Wattly estimates charging cost from the electricity prices you set in Settings, based on energy added to the battery. Actual consumption at the charger can be higher due to charging losses (typically 5–15%, depending on speed and conditions).
Subscription
2How do I manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel or change yours:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap “Subscriptions”.
- Find Wattly and manage it.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple under App Store policy. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and follow the steps.
No results for “”. Try a different term, or email support.
